El rapero estadounidense Eminem, con diez candidaturas, parte como el gran favorito para la 53 edición de los premios Grammy, seguido de cerca por las siete nominaciones obtenidas por Bruno Mars y las seis logradas por Lady Gaga, Lady Antebellum y Jay-Z.


El veterano artista de Detroit consiguió, entre otras, las candidaturas al álbum, grabación y canción del año (por "Love the way you lie", interpretada junto a Rihanna). Su disco "Recovery" también aspira al premio otorgado al mejor álbum de rap, un gramófono que ya ha obtenido en cuatro ocasiones.


El principal rival para Eminem será el cantante, compositor y productor Bruno Mars, de origen puertorriqueño, y tras las seis nominaciones conseguidas por Lady Gaga, Jay-Z y Lady Antebellum, aparecen Jeff Beck, B.o.B, David Frost, Philip Lawrence y John Legend, con cinco candidaturas.


Gaga, Katy Perry, Eminem, la banda canadiense de rock Arcade Fire y el trío de country Lady Antebellum se disputarán la categoría del álbum del año por los trabajos "The fame monster", "Teenage dream", "Recovery", "The suburbs" y "Need you now", respectivamente.


"Me siento genial", dijo Perry, presente en la ceremonia organizada en el club Nokia, en Los Ángeles (California). "Estos premios no tienen comparación. Te reconocen tus propios compañeros y hay muchos otros que podían haber logrado la nominación. Estar ahí ya es como ganar", añadió.


Perry, sin embargo, no consiguió ser incluida en las categorías de mejor canción y mejor grabación.


La otra gran candidatura del evento, la de grabación del año, se la disputarán Eminem y Rihanna, por "Love the way you lie"; Jay-Z y Alicia Keys, por "Empire state of mind", Lady Antebellum, por "Need you now"; Cee Lo Green, por "Forget you", y B.o.B., por "Nothing on you".


Los nominados a la mejor canción del año (premio al compositor) son "Forget you", de Cee Lo Green; "Love the way you lie", de Eminem; "Need you now", de Lady Antebellum; "Beg steal or borrow", de Ray Lamontagne, y "The house that built me", de Miranda Lambert.


Asimismo el gramófono destinado al mejor artista novel se lo disputarán Justin Bieber, Drake, Florence and the Machine, Mumford and Sons y Esperanza Spalding, mientras que la estatuilla destinada al mejor álbum de rock enfrentará a "Emotion and commotion", de Jeff Beck; "The resistance", de Muse; "Backspacer", de Pearl Jam; "Mojo", de Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, y "Le noise", de Neil Young.


"Quiero dar las gracias a mis fans", declaró el joven Bieber, de 16 años. "No me puedo creer que esté en esta situación. No me siento como una superestrella, sólo como una persona normal viviendo su sueño", agregó.


En el campo de música latina, el mejor álbum pop se lo disputarán "Poquita ropa", de Ricardo Arjona; "Alex Cuba", de Alex Cuba; "Boleto de entrada", de Kany García; "Paraíso Express", de Alejandro Sanz, y "Otra cosa", de Julieta Venegas.


Los discos considerados fueron publicados entre el 1 de septiembre de 2009 y el 30 de septiembre de 2010. Se anunciaron un total de 109 categorías, algunas de ellas también relacionadas con la industria cinematográfica.


Por ejemplo, las composiciones musicales de "Alice in Wonderland", "Avatar", "Inception", "Sherlock Holmes" y "Toy Story 3" aspiran al Grammy a la mejor banda sonora de una película, serie de televisión u otro medio audiovisual.


La gala, emitida en directo en EE.UU. por el canal CBS, contó con las actuaciones musicales de Katy Perry ("California Gurls"), Bruno Mars ("Just the way you are"), Train ("Hey soul sister"), Miranda Lambert ("Only prettier"), Justin Bieber ("Favorite girl") y B.o.B. ("Nothin' on you" y "Don't let me fall").


La ceremonia de los Grammy se celebrará el 13 de febrero en el Staples Center, de Los Ángeles.
